Division Street Skatepark

DIVISION STREET SKATEPARK PROJECT

Status Report Mr Spock?!

This is a summary of our current position.
All is moving forward but when working with city and state planning commissions there are certain policies and procedures that must be adhered to . There is no deviating from them and thus we must be diligent but ........ be patient.

ODOT- we have a permit in hand. we need to get a site plan together for them as well as proof of insurance and get it back to them. They will then make some changes and what not and get it back to us. Hopefully we can get that permit worked out in the next six weeks.
City of Bend - We have a permit from them as well. We need to get them site plans as well as $6500 to start their process.
Parks and Rec- We went to the meeting last week and consulted with them about the rebuild at ponderosa and offered our services to help. Since then, they have contacted me and we have a meeting with the head of parks and rec in two weeks.

Our priority now is park site plans. Mr Yamada and the park committee have started and we hope to have somethign soon!

will keep you posted.

Nick Hunter Memorial Show , Bend Oregon

The Nick Hunter memorial show on Monday night was awesome! Over two hundred people came out to celebrate in Nick's memory. Special thanks to Scott Kramer for putting on the show and Nick's mother, Gayle Hunter for wanting the proceeds to go to the Division Street! Last but not least the bands, Larry and his Flask, The Confederats, Five Pint Mary, and Trans Am Slam Dance! RIP, Nick. Heaven is a halfpipe ...

Drum Roll Please ..............

It is with GREAT pleasure that we can finally announce the grand total from last week's PUSH event {drum roll please}........ $12,500, with a few skateboards still unaccounted for. So we may still top the 13k mark. This is roughly $5000 more than the result from PUSH 2010.

The Division Street Skatepark Project is the brain child of local skaters dedicated to building a skatepark in Bend. Situated on Division Street under the Bend Parkway, the potential location for the park is currently vacant and strewn with large boulders. The project crew, comprised of volunteers who have dreamt ofsuch an opportunity for years, has formed a 501 (c)3 nonprofit in order to secure grants and funds for building the park. Inspired by Burnside Skatepark in Portland, the founders plan to follow their example by building a skatepark to the highest standards and maintaining control of the project through development and usage. Progress is being made and details will be shared at the event.

Additional sponsors of the event include local marketing firm 14 Hands, Action Printing, Sonic Solutions, Plum Cocktails and Merry Making, and Island Wild Seafoods.

2010 Bend Or Alley Jam is a SUCCESS!!!!

BEND COMMUNITY RALLIES TO MAKE ALLEY JAM FUNDRAISER A HUGE SUCCESS

Over $30,000 in materials and services contributed to event by community
Bend, Oregon .

On a sunny Saturday afternoon in late August, Bo Asian Bistro brought a new event to Bend. This unique fundraiser, called The Alley Jam, was a way for the popular restaurant, the sister company to Typhoon! Restaurants, to become more involved with the local community, raise awareness for a good cause and bring a successful music / skate / art event to the streets of Central Oregon.

The Alley Jam raised awareness and funds for DSSP (Division Street Skatepark.org) and ASC (American Cancer Society), gifting a $3,500 cash donation to the causes following the event. Over $30,000 in materials and services were donated by community businesses and individuals who contributed and worked alongside Bo Asian Bistro to bring the event to life.
Held in the Tin Pan Alley behind the Franklin Crossing building in downtown Bend, the Alley Jam premiered in its first year as a compilation of local music, skate talent and opportunities, and art. Local artists Larry and His Flask, Mosley Wotta, Necktie Killer, and Mindscape donated their talents and rocked the stage throughout Alley Jam. Musical acts were accompanied with live art exhibits hosted by Reclamation of the Arts and Music Project or R.A.M.P (formerly Aritisphere), and a skateboarding Jam hosted by DSSP .The skate portion exhibited multiple features constructed on-site with the help of local sponsors. Many local skaters participated in both free skate and competition formats.
A family-friendly event, the Alley Jam was open to the public at no charge, offering a variety of concessions. Donations were also gladly accepted.

Local sponsors who rallied to support the event included Home Depot, Swift Steel, Deschutes Brewery, Bend Distillery, Connecting Point, Dana Mac Design, RAMP, Midtown Tavern, Denfeld Paints, Elwood, Sector 9, The Longboard Store, 14 Hands, Chet Childress, MacKay & Sposito, Bend Radio Group & 92.9, The Source Weekly, Action Printing, Pak-It Liquidators, ReStore, Crust Productions, Ace Hardware, West Coast Event Productions and Typhoon!

Redmond Skatepark - The end of an era , so to speak. 8/24/10

This is a sample

Well after nearly 10 years of the Redmond skatepark being "skaters only" the city council decided to lift the ban on scooters and impose a 6 month trial for scooters at the skatepark.
DSSP was their in full force and Mr Burdick and Mr Yamada , as well as yours truly expressed our concerns and offered up both opinions and facts to try and sway the city council against the use of Bikes and Scooters at the skatepark. When all had said there peace the council decided to allow the scooters for a trial run of 6 months. Needless to say the bike enthusiasts that were present were not happy and left the building with vulgarity and displeasure . Both of which , in my opinion , did not help there case. With this being said and the ruling in effect , lets use our common sense and giving nature to help our somewhat fellow sideways brethren use the skatepark to its full potential and without animosity. I for one am not happy about this ruling , but , its now the law.
