Division Street Skatepark Project is a grassroots skate project being developed by P U S H in Bend, Oregon. Started by locals and run by locals, DSSP (for short) is a labor of love for those involved.
Established in 2007, DSSP began with an idea: "Let's build an awesome skatepark, and put Bend on the map within the skate community". Inspired by Burnside skatepark in Portland, local skaters scouted for spots around town to build a park, eventually setting on the plot of land beneath the Division Street overpass.
Since its inception, DSSP has become much more than just building a skatepark: it has united the Bend skate community. It has spawned amazing fundraiser events such as annual skateboard art auctions, and most-recently the 1st Annual Alley Jam in downtown Bend which was an epic success.
While we haven't broken ground just yet, DSSP has gained much momentum in the last 3 years. The core team behind the project has evolved, and everyone is poised and ready for when the time comes to pull the trigger. Money has been raised. The town is aware of what we're going for. Nothing but concrete and shredding ahead ... we promise.
So what's left to do, you may ask? Most importantly, the first thing we need to do is secure property legitimately and jump through all of the legal hoops involved in something such as this. No easy task, when bureaucracy is involved. Currently we are waiting for 100% clearance on the bridge location, however we are also feeling out other potential locations around town in the event that our first choice pans out.
We are also investigating potential sponsorship to help with the huge burden of expenses involved in building a world-class park such as what we're envisioning. While the fundraisers have been a massive help, we cannot build this park on donations alone.
