Division Street Skatepark

PLANNING & DESIGN

Design Ideas

We all know there is a great deal of debate about what kind of skate terrain is the most useful for a community. I know some of us have preferences, and some of us just want to skate. I firmly believe that it doesnt matter what you put in front of a true skater, they will skate it. We have a unique site with some great features and about 20,000 sq/ft to work with. Those of us working on this have the approach that its good to provide everything that we can without having conflicts in terms of flow or by making compromises and ending up with a less than ideal outcome. We are taking the overall design into account and trying to plan a general flow pattern and some ideas for features. Beyond that, Bob(link) will lead us as we design and build simultaniously to account for the site. What we will see in the end is a skatepark with superior flow and build from some of the other DIY efforts but retaining the unique features and feel that has come to define skateparks built by skaters under bridges. Taking the street skaters into account (I am one), we have plans to build a small street plaza that will hopefully draw in those kids. Overall we are dedicated to representing every kind of skate terrain and provide a full experience while providing for progression through design.
